Hello everyone, We’re sharing practical steps to help protect your home and community from burglary, anti‑social behaviour (ASB) and robbery, based on verified Metropolitan Police guidance.
🔐 Burglary Prevention – Our Main FocusMost burglaries are opportunistic. Offenders look for homes that appear easy to enter or poorly secured. Secure the Inside & Outside of Your HomeAlways lock doors and windows, even when you’re at home — burglars frequently target properties with unsecured entry points. [members.me...gage.co.uk]Keep valuables out of sight, as visible items make a home more attractive to offenders. Use lighting and visible security such as alarms; homes without visible alarms and with poor lighting are more likely to be targeted. Protect Boundaries and OutbuildingsWeak side or rear boundaries, open gates and accessible wheelie bins make it easier for offenders to access a property. Secure gardens, sheds and garages — burglars often use tools found in these areas. [police.uk]CCTV & Doorbell Cameras – Use Them EffectivelyEnsure your CCTV or video doorbell system is fully functional, with clear recording and good coverage.Review footage regularly, especially if you notice unusual or suspicious behaviour.Provide footage promptly to police when requested — quick access to evidence supports investigations and suspect identification. (Supported by MPS guidance emphasising surveillance and security measures.) [opendoorhomes.org]When You Leave HomeUse a simple checklist: secure all doors and windows, hide valuables, set timers for lights, and ensure boundary gates are locked. Property Marking & RecordingMark or record valuables to make them harder for burglars to resell and easier for police to identify.
🚶♂️ Robbery PreventionKeep phones and valuables out of sight when walking — criminals look for items that are easy to snatch. Stay alert, reduce distractions, and choose well‑lit, busier areas whenever possible.
